BLAMMO Display — Type Design
Spring 2024

THE CHALLENGE:
Create a typeface based on our given specimen: the BLAMMO bubblegum logo from the 1970s (below).

THE DESIGN:
Our team created guidelines for each letter, then divided the glyphs among ourselves to create and refine using Glyphs Mini. We also crafted a new identity for the typeface, focusing on punk music and culture, specifically in regards to protest movements.

In collaboration with Kayla Sailsbury, Luisa Ortega, and Daniela Garcia

In addition to our digital type file we created physical stencils from the typeface that we used in combination with spray painted designs to create posters.

While BLAMMO’s uppercase letters are bold and punk, the lowercase set provides a softer, rounder feel. The modularity of the type face allows for experimentation with patterns and shapes.
